Tutor Profile

Carl specializes in preparation for the SAT and ACT, ISEE, SSAT, SHSAT, and academic English, writing and essay skills, US History, Social Studies, and elementary and middle school math.

Carl has over a decade of experience in tutoring and test prep and has worked with a variety of students throughout the US and internationally.

Carl earned his B.A. at the University of Pennsylvania and went on to earn his MFA in acting at Harvard’s Institute for Advanced Theatre Training. Carl began his career in education by tutoring the LSAT for Kaplan, which eventually led him to SAT prep, which he has done extensively in classrooms and privately with one-on-one tutoring.

Carl went on to expand his test prep repertoire, including tutoring for the updated SAT, ACT, ISEE, SSAT, SHSAT, as well as several academic tutoring and testing subjects. In his tutoring career, Carl has worked with over 1,000 students around the world both in-person and virtually.

In addition to his extensive tutoring and test prep work, one of Carl’s most rewarding experiences was working as college advisor and SAT instructor at a very successful college prep program at an NYC Boys and Girls Club, guiding students through the essay-writing requirements of the application.

One of Carl’s greatest strengths as a tutor is his ability to relate to his students. Carl is very patient, easygoing, and inspiring. He meets his students’ needs by working to establish a personalized program that maximizes its effectiveness for that particular student, no matter where the starting point might be. Carl helps students to focus on what will make them most successful on test day and reinforces their skills and confidence in every lesson.
