Tutor Profile
Carl specializes in preparation for the SAT, ACT, and academic support for middle school, high school and college-level mathematics.
Carl is a tutor and teacher with over a decade of experience specializing in SAT and ACT test prep and mathematics. He has helped hundreds of students from around the world maximize their potential through in-person and online tutoring sessions.
Soon after earning his B.A. from Columbia University, Carl began teaching. He also joined the faculty at the Avenues World School in Manhattan as a HIP (High-Intensity Practice) tutor for the school’s mathematics department. Carl recently earned an M.A. from Indiana University – Bloomington, where he worked as an associate instructor, teaching two sections of Learning Strategies for Math, a class designed to help business majors succeed in finite mathematics.
Carl’s strengths as a tutor lie in his ability to pinpoint a student’s specific needs and strategy gaps, as well as his ability to recognize a student’s natural strengths as a test taker. Carl teaches a standardized test as if it were a game of skill. The first step is to learn the rules of the game, the second step is to devise a specific plan of action for each obstacle, and the third step is to practice until it becomes second nature.
As a test prep tutor, Carl has had extensive experience with the SAT, ACT, AP Calculus AB and BC exams, and he has coached many students to success (many achieving perfect scores.)
