Counselor Profile

Lloyd specializes in students applying to highly selective schools, international students, students interested in business/economics, and the college application writing process.

Lloyd began his career as Assistant Director of Admissions at Colorado College in Colorado Springs, CO, where he grew up and attended boarding school. He then served as Associate Director of Admissions and Director of the Alumni Schools Committee at Yale University, coordinating alumni efforts world-wide and serving as Editor-in-Chief of the Alumni Schools Committee newsletter. He then moved on to assume the role of Director of Admissions at Vassar College. While at Yale and Vassar, Lloyd continued to explore his interest in writing and its impact on the college admissions process and chaired campus-wide committees that reviewed the role of the personal statement in college applications.

As a counselor, Lloyd empowers his students to take ownership of their college prep while providing expertise and emotional support, knowing how overwhelming the selective college admissions process can seem. Applying to college is a journey of discovery and self-reflection — and the college application is the perfect platform on which students can and should be themselves. Lloyd particularly enjoys helping students highlight their unique qualities through their applicant profiles and essays.

For the last decade, Lloyd has lived in Shanghai, working with high schools to strengthen their curriculums and to implement college counseling offices. He enjoys traveling around Asia and often visits Thailand, Indonesia, and Japan; subsequently, he has developed a profound respect for the international human condition. He is also an avid cook, with Chinese, Mexican, and Creole cuisines at the top of his list. He has played basketball, tennis, and golf since middle school and continues to do so. And when not in the kitchen, he is either engrossed in western movies or listening to jazz music.
