Huey, M.D.
Huey grew up in Maryland as a native bilingual speaker of Chinese (Mandarin) and English. He graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University with a bachelor’s degree in molecular and cellular biology and a minor in global health and health policy. He received an M.Phil. in Epidemiology at the University of Cambridge with support from Harvard’s Herchel-Smith Fellowship in Science and graduated from the M.D. program at Columbia University’s Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons in May 2023. He completed his transitional year at Newton-Wellesely Hospital and is now an ophthalmology resident at Massachusetts Eye and Ear, a teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School.
Huey is passionate about mentoring students interested in STEM, music, and medicine. In high school, he served as a peer mentor through the Science National Honor Society and helped younger medical students with selecting a specialty choice as president of the Asian Pacific American Medical Student Association. He understands the importance of starting early, planning ahead, and finding high-quality resources and learning opportunities to set students up for success.
As a mentor at IvyWise, Huey brings a flexible, student-centered mentoring style that aligns with the program’s mission of personalized guidance. Huey customizes his mentoring approach to each student’s unique learning style. For students who thrive on structure and close interaction, he is readily available to provide consistent facetime, support, and encouragement; whereas for those who prefer independent exploration, he creates space for autonomy, offering guidance as needed to keep them aligned with their goals. This adaptability ensures that each student Huey works with is empowered to reach their potential, whether mastering study skills, tackling college admissions tasks, or achieving personal growth.
In his spare time, Huey enjoys playing basketball and tennis, elevating his personal fitness level, solving and creating crosswords, improving his photography skills, and playing violin.
